Chief Executive Officer

Overview

Company: AmpliSi | Silicon Battery Anode Spinout
Location: Cambridgeshire/Sheffield (United Kingdom)
Role (part-time / full time): Full-Time
Application Deadline: June 2, 2025

  • Join a new University of Sheffield spinout, backed by venture-builder Cambridge Future Tech, on a mission to unlock the next generation of high-performance, energy-dense batteries. The founding team has developed a proprietary porous-silicon anode material delivers up to 3–4× the energy density of traditional graphite anodes while cutting production costs by 40 %. We’re looking for a visionary Chief Executive Officer to turn this breakthrough into the industry standard for electric-vehicle batteries and beyond.

  • As CEO you will own the commercial roadmap, from early-stage company building to global market penetration. You’ll steer fund-raising, product-market fit, and strategic partnerships while working shoulder-to-shoulder with the inventing scientists and the Cambridge Future Tech venture-building team. You will need to work with existing stakeholders in both Cambridge and Sheffield (UK) with additional flexibility for travel to customers, partners, and investors.

This is a rare opportunity to join as a CEO of an early stage startup as it spins out from an academic institution, with support of a venture studio. With technical development over many years, core assets secured, and qualified commercial and investor interest in the venture, the role of the CEO is to come in and deliver this traction into a successful, growing company. On top of this, Cambridge Future Tech provides direct support via a team of experienced start-up operators, analysts and sector experts on payroll, who are there to support you through the critical formative stages of the venture. This is all designed to de-risk the development of the venture in order to deliver maximum impact, both societal and financial, for all stakeholders.

    • Scale the venture: Set strategy, define milestones, and build a world-class team that can take porous-silicon anodes from pilot to mass production.

    • Raise capital: Lead equity and grant funding rounds; manage investor relationships and board governance.

    • Drive commercial adoption: Secure offtake agreements and joint-development projects with EV-battery OEMs and cell manufacturers. Develop partnerships across the battery supply chain as the product scales.

    • Champion the vision: Represent the company at conferences, in the media, and with policy-makers to position us as the go-to solution for next-gen lithium-ion batteries.

    • Demonstrated C-level or founder leadership in deep tech or advanced materials start-ups.

    • Successful fund-raising track record (across early-stage venture capital, grants, and/or other mechanisms)

    • Hands-on experience scaling hardware or materials processes from lab to pilot to volume manufacture; battery or energy storage background strongly preferred.

    • Deep industry network across EVs, battery OEMs, and tier-one suppliers.

    • Fluent communicator and public speaker able to inspire technical teams, investors, and customers alike.
